Paycheck (2003)

I recently watched Paycheck. An interesting movie that explores time, determinism and free will. There also some fascinating aspects about memory and it's role in human relationships. Equally interesting is the view of man. 

Man is naturally greedy and precisely due to that greediness, less able to handle the gravity of knowing or seeing a glimpse of the future. But the other issue appears to that man is assumed to be inherently a prisoner of his own knowledge. Determinism is assumed to flow from the vicious circularity of man's knowledge (right or wrongly) shaping human choices which in turn self-fulfils the prophecy. As far as man and future knowledge are concerned, it appears ignorance is not only bliss, it is safer, according to this movie. 

Naturally, for future "movie corner" musings, we shall say a lot more than stated in this introductory piece!

I am what I am by Gloria Gaynor

Beverly Knight closed the opening ceremony of the Paralympics with what has been dubbed the signature tune of the Paralympics. I had no idea Ms Knight is still in the singing business. And clearly going by the raving reviews she will continue to be around. One media source says her performance was so electric that "there wasn’t a dry eye to be seen as she sang the lyrics to the song and people even watching at home felt the passion in her words" .
