6 reasons to ditch that phone in a meeting!

Travis Bradberry gives six things having the phone with you in a meeting communicates about you: 
1. Lack of respect. It says you consider your phone to be more important than the conversation or topic at hand. 
2. Lack of attention. It communicates that you are unable to stay focused on one thing at a time.

3. Lack of listening. You are not practicing active listening when you are with your phone. So no one around you feels heard. 
4. Lack of power. You are like a modern-day Pavlovian dog who responds to the whims of others through the buzz of your phone. 
5. Lack of self-awareness. You don't understand how ridiculous your behavior looks to other people. 
6. Lack of social awareness. You don't understand how your behavior affects those around you.
From an article written by Travis Bradberry (Linkedin Pulse). Apparently researchers conducted a USA nationwide survey of 554 full-time working professionals earning above $30K and working in companies with at least 50 employees. They asked a variety of questions about smartphone use during meetings. They found around 85% think it’s inappropriate to answer phone calls, write texts or emails during meetings. Interesting, the more money people make the less they approve of smartphone use.

I Am Mother

I think it is true to say that the Netflix film I Am Mother is one the most disturbing movies I have watched for a long time. The film is set in a near future. Human life has been wiped out. An artificial intelligence (AI) called Mother is living inside a bunker where thousands of embroyos are stored. It selects an embryo and initiates a program to grow a baby within 24 hours. The AI then goes on to raise the child as its mother over the next few years.  After 16 years, the girl, who now goes by the name of Daughter (Clara Rugaard) is a teenager. She has never been outside because Mother has told her that the air is toxic. Her time is spend being home schooled in science and ethics so that she can become a perfect human being. The bond between Daughter and Mother is unusually strong. Is everyone called to be a leader?

It's important to realize (again) that there is nothing disgraceful or shameful about failing this or any other tests of leadership. Not everyone is called to be a leader. After all, for leaders to succeed, there must be followers. Most of us need to be good, dedicated followers in our earthly pursuits. And all of us, naturally, need to be followers of the Lord Jesus. So perhaps it is better to distinguish between public and private leaders. We may not be public leaders, in the sense of consciously leading the crowd, but we are all private leaders in the sense that someone is watching how we live and learning from us. So in a way we are all leaders and followers at the same time!
